Save A Life – From Those Who Are Given Much, Much Is Expected

As lawyers, we are fortunate to practice a profession that allows us to enjoy a comparatively high standard of living and affords us a wide range of opportunities to work on challenging projects and to influence the world in which we live.  At Potter Anderson & Corroon, we have always believed that these privileges are accompanied by the responsibility – and the honor – of service.

Potter Anderson & Corroon lawyers have a long history of support of professional, charitable, civic and community organizations.  Such support helps to fulfill our professional obligations as attorneys, as well as our institutional commitment to our community's social service and other volunteer organizations.

For example, one of our lawyers helped found and served as president of Delaware Volunteer Legal Services, Inc. (DVLS), a volunteer lawyer organization that promotes pro bono services to the indigent.  Many of our lawyers represent clients who have come to us through DVLS and who have a need for a variety of services, such as the creation of guardianships or will-drafting.  Another of our partners was a founder and Chair of the Advisory Committee of the Fund for Women of the Delaware Community Foundation.  The Fund for Women makes grants to non-profit organizations that address critical needs of women and girls in the State of Delaware.  Many years ago, attorneys from the firm also were instrumental in establishing Delaware’s legal aid agency, the Community Legal Aid Society (known as CLASI), and in the intervening years our lawyers have served on CLASI's board including as the board's president.

We encourage our lawyers to become engaged in pro bono activities of their own choosing in areas where they believe they can be most effective.  In the past, some of these activities have included representation of children in Family Court proceedings, service on boards of directors of community, environmental, and religious organizations, work on political campaigns, and leadership positions in United Way fundraising drives.
